Eliason commits to North Dakota State

CHADRON – A second member of the Eliason family will be playing Division I college basketball next season after Chadron senior Spencer Eliason committed to North Dakota State on Wednesday.

Eliason was an all-state honorable mention during his senior season, averaging 17.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He helped lead the Cardinals to a 15-8 record after winning just seven games the previous season.

He joins a Bison team that went 26-7 last season and won the Summit League championship to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament as a 12 seed and stunned 5-seed Oklahoma in an 80-75 overtime upset before losing to 4th seeded San Diego State.

The team will be under new leadership this fall after coach Saul Phillips was hired by Ohio University. He’s replaced by David Richman, who has been an associate head coach for the past seven years under Phillips. Richman’s staff includes Jayden Olson, who was previously the director of basketball operations at Nebraska and worked closely with Tim Miles to turn around the Huskers and Colorado State.

Eliason will join his older brother in the Division I ranks. Elliott Eliason started 35 games for Minnesota as a junior, averaging 5 points and 6.6 rebounds and was named a team captain in January.
